A Marriage Evolving

As I write this, fall is showing off in all its splendor and glory. I love looking out my window at the mountains, brushed in vibrant reds and golden yellows. Living in a place where I get to experience all four seasons feels like a gift—each one bringing its own beauty, rhythm, and lessons. Over time, I’ve come to believe it’s not just important, but essential, to find joy in the seasons—not only those of the earth, but the seasons of our lives as well.

The Law of Rhythm reminds us that everything flows in and out. Like the tides, our emotions and circumstances rise and fall. The lows give contrast and depth to the highs. Life isn’t meant to be constant—it’s meant to move.

As Bob Proctor puts it:
"REASON gives us the ability to CHOOSE our thoughts (THAT IS FREE WILL). Even when you are on a natural downswing, you can choose good thoughts with your FREE WILL and continue to move up toward your goal."

Right now, I’m soaking in the crisp autumn air and the brilliance of fall—but I also know winter is on its way. (Mental note: time to get the snow blower serviced!) And yet, I love winter too. There’s something about the quiet hush of falling snow, the stillness, the way it invites us to slow down. I’ve learned to savor every season, knowing none of them last forever. A few months—and change returns.

Understanding this law has helped me move through life’s harder moments with more grace. When business didn’t go as planned, I took a breath and reminded myself: the upswing is coming. It always does.

When my marriage felt stagnant, I didn’t panic. I reminded myself this was just a dip in the cycle. And by law, it wouldn’t stay that way.

As I leaned into this rhythm, I stopped resisting. I stopped trying to fight the natural flow of life. I reminded myself: All is well. And by choosing better thoughts—calm, peaceful, trusting thoughts—I moved through the hard seasons more smoothly. They didn’t last as long because I accepted them, trusted the process, and kept moving forward.

Eventually, my new “lows” became higher than my old “highs.” That’s what happens when we choose our thoughts intentionally: our entire baseline begins to rise.

Fall is famous for its rapid shifts—chilly mornings with the furnace on, warm afternoons that call for the AC. Life’s like that, too. But no matter how dark or cold the night may feel, the morning always comes. Light always returns.

The Law of Rhythm teaches us that during the lows, we can still choose gratitude—because, by law, an upswing is already on its way. So when the dips come (and they will), choose your thoughts carefully. Choose them with hope. Choose them with faith. Choose them well.
