Another Broken Broom

You may have heard about the time I called the cops on the kid who broke my broom. But did you know there’s another broom story—one that happened exactly ten years later?

Before I share the second story, here’s some context:

The first broom incident happened before we discovered the principles of prosperity and committed to living them. At the time, I was caught in a deep, relentless depression. I felt stuck—discouraged, negative, and constantly on edge because of money problems. So when I stepped outside our little two-bedroom apartment and found my broom snapped in half—thanks to a neighbor teen—I just… snapped.

With my mindset at the time, the only thing I could think to do was call the police. I didn’t have money to replace it, and I was too angry to even see another option. You can watch the story unfold here.

As I explain in the video, I use this story to illustrate “thought frequencies.” We think at a certain level, and our experiences—good or bad—match that level. If we want different results, we have to learn to think on a higher level. And most often, that means learning from someone who already is.

So if you’re facing the same kinds of problems, year after year, consider this:

You cannot think your way out of a problem that you (consciously or unconsciously) thought your way into—unless you think differently than you ever have before.

Every challenge has a solution. But if you’re not seeing it, it may be because you're still tuned in to the same mental “station” that created the issue in the first place. It’s not that the solution doesn’t exist—it’s just that you're not yet tuned to the frequency where it’s being broadcast.

Think of it like a radio. When you turn it on and adjust the dial, you eventually land on a station and hear the music. If you want different music, you simply change the station. The radio isn’t “attracting” the music—it’s just picking up what’s already out there.

Solutions are the same way. They’re already there. If you’re not seeing them, your mental “receiver” just isn’t dialed in yet. But when it is, the answer often pops in as a crystal-clear aha moment. Or you’re led to a person or resource that lights the path. Your body—your mind’s tool—is literally a receiver. It’s tuned by your thoughts and emotions. That’s how it works.

So how do you start tuning in?

First, see yourself experiencing the relief you seek. Really see it. Picture it as though it’s happening right now. As you build that picture and allow yourself to feel the success, you shift your body’s vibration—and that shift activates your problem-solving power.

But if you keep playing the “what ifs” in your mind—What if this doesn’t work? What if things get worse?—you stay in a vibrational state that keeps tuning you in to perceived solutions that may actually pull you toward the very thing you're trying to avoid.

(Seriously, go back and read that paragraph again—slowly.)

On the other hand, you’re free to dream. That’s the first step to real freedom. When you dream—really dream—you shift your energy. You begin to magnetize the right people, resources, and ideas. Everything you need is already out there. Just prepare yourself to receive it. Think truth in spite of appearances. Believe in abundance. Know that prosperity is real and it’s just one vibration away.

Now… on to broom story #2:

Ten years later, my 12-year-old son came to me, sheepishly, and said:
“Mom… I broke your broom.”

My first thought flashed back to that day—the police call, the anger, the feeling of helplessness.

But then, I smiled.

Because this time? I didn’t want to buy a new broom, but I wasn’t worried about it. The floor might be messy for a bit—not a big deal. I’ll get around to replacing it when I can. I’ve got bigger fish to fry. And now? I can think of a hundred ways to solve that problem.

Same situation. Completely different experience. Why? Because this time, I was tuned in to a growing wealth of ideas and solutions.

Stress shuts off the idea channels.

Calmness—serenity—opens them.

Trusting God and leaning into peace literally flips the ON switch to your inspiration receiver.

“Peace, be still.” That’s not just a comforting phrase—it’s a powerful principle. Trust God. The level of success you enjoy will directly reflect your ability to stay calm and trust Him through increasingly complex challenges.

Your ability to prosper will grow with your ability to demonstrate peace under pressure.

Eventually, you’ll look back and realize the things that once felt impossible are now no big deal. Whether it’s the threat of foreclosure or nerves over a job interview—ten years from now, you may laugh at how much you worried.

So get inspired. Feed your mind with higher-level ideas. It doesn’t have to be formal—just get around people who think right. Spend time with them. Read their books. Learn how they think. And associate often.

Onward and upward!
