Dreams to Come True

guest posts law of gestation success stories Sep 06, 2008

By Doug Lange

The Law of Gestation teaches that every seed has a gestation period—the time it takes to grow and reach full maturity. But that growth only happens when the seed is in the right environment. Without the right conditions, the seed might die—or at best, take much longer to mature.

The same goes for ideas and dreams. They also have an incubation period. And when they’re held onto and placed in the right mental and emotional environment, they begin to develop and eventually take form in our reality. This means nurturing them with belief, visualization, aligned action, and emotional conviction. But if we let doubt and negativity creep in, we risk delaying—or even killing—the dream.

The tricky part is, we never know how long a particular dream will take. But if we stay faithful, believe in it, and keep moving in the direction of it, we increase our chances of seeing it come to life.

A couple of years after my wife and I moved into our first house, she mentioned a nearby city she’d love to live in someday. It was a beautiful place—also known for being expensive. With my income at the time, I couldn’t see us affording a home there anytime soon.

Still, we had a weekend ritual of checking out houses and lots for sale. Over time, my wife developed a clear vision of the kind of home she wanted. One Saturday, we spotted some construction equipment off in the distance. Curious, we drove over and discovered a brand new development underway. We liked the area a lot and returned several times, trying to figure out who the developer was. Eventually, we got our hands on a plot map. Unfortunately, the lot we wanted was already marked out—sold to a home builder. I was disappointed that we hadn’t even had a chance to put in an offer.

Despite that, we kept visiting the area. We’d park in front of that lot and just admire the surroundings. My wife would dream out loud about the kind of home she envisioned there. Months later, on a whim, I called the developer again to ask about the lot. He said I’d just missed it—it had been sold that morning. I told him I thought it was already sold long ago, and he explained that the previous builder had backed out. Now I was even more frustrated—we’d missed our shot twice. But then, he said something unexpected: if the new buyers didn’t show up with their earnest money in two days, we could have the lot.

Two days later, the phone rang. The lot was ours—if we still wanted it. We raced down with our earnest money, both thrilled and terrified. That dirt alone cost a fortune.

But from there, things fell into place. In ways we hadn’t expected, doors opened. We were able to start building our home far sooner than we imagined. And somehow—miraculously—we were able to pay for it in cash. It was beyond what we’d dared to hope for.

It took years, but that dream came true. And it came through bigger than we could have planned.
The Law of Gestation reminds us to stay patient and grounded. Faith and belief help us keep moving forward, even when we can’t yet see how it’ll all work out.
