How The Law Of Cause And Effect Has Worked For Me Recently

It works with money. It works with other things, too. Depend on it.
You may already know that I have some disabilities and have been on Disability since 1991. Over the years, I’ve had to ask for and receive a lot of help. Medicare, Medicaid, Community Action, churches, food banks, and so many others have shown me kindness and generosity. I’ve never been left without the basic necessities of life.
Because of that, I carry a deep desire to give back—whatever I can. Whether it’s a warm meal, a ride to town, babysitting, a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, or even just a sofa to sleep on for the night, I want to give.
But I’ve learned that the Law applies most powerfully when we act in faith—even when it feels hard. My most painful experience with this Law happened during a time when I was running low financially. A friend, who was in even more need than I was, asked me for a few dollars. I opened my wallet and saw only six dollars. Fear crept in. I told her I couldn’t give it—that it was all I had to get me to my next payday.
And I paid for that choice.
For three months, the money stopped coming in. All the steady support I had relied on—gone. Even the smaller, day-to-day resources froze. My checks bounced, payments failed, and I was hit with hundreds of dollars in bank fees.
It wasn’t until I made a new decision—no matter how little I had, I would still share it—that things began to shift. And I followed through the very next time I had the chance. That’s when the flow started to return. Slowly. Much slower than the abrupt halt, but it did return. I believe the Law wanted to see my faith in action again before it moved in my favor. It took another month to stabilize my account and restore some sense of financial peace.
It’s fascinating how money teaches us the quickest lessons. With money, the Effect of Return is often immediate. But when it comes to kindness, compassion, service, friendship, and love—it’s subtler. If we’ve been withholding those things, it might take longer to feel them return to us. And when they do return, it usually comes from somewhere completely unexpected—a stranger, someone who can’t see who we used to be, only who we’ve become.
They respond to the shift in our heart. Even when it doesn’t “show,” it radiates. And people who are open can feel the person you’ve become.
So be willing to change. Don’t be afraid to shift your behavior, your thoughts, your heart, even your environment. This whole journey is about change. We take it on because we want our lives to change. Embrace it—even when it doesn’t look like it’s going in the direction you hoped.
Sometimes when you look at a road map, the road veers away from your destination—but it always curves back. This journey doesn’t come with a map. But it comes with a Guide. And who has your best interest at heart more than God?
For those who wrestle with the idea of God, just remember—there is a Higher Power in this Universe working for your good. All we have to do is align ourselves with that Power, and the good will come.
Learning these Laws is how we learn to align. It really is that simple.
