"I had been prepared"

The Law of Perpetual Transmutation is a universal law that teaches us something powerful: things and circumstances are always shifting—from a non-existent, unseen state into a physical, tangible reality. Perpetual means ongoing, never-ending. Transmutation is simply the process of changing from one form to another. The scriptures teach—and I believe—that all things are created spiritually before they are physically (see Moses 3:4-5).
This doctrine lays the foundation for the law. For example, when we think, we begin to create. Thoughts move something from non-existence into spiritual form. In that moment, we become co-creators with God by using the divine gift of thought. But if we begin to doubt or fear, the process reverses—and what we were working to attract can be pushed away.
However, if we nurture our thoughts with faith and a positive mindset, then act on them, they begin to materialize. Our ideas become goals, and goals become reality. When we live in harmony with this law, the circumstances and blessings we seek are drawn to us—and our faith begins to grow.
There are a few key ingredients to bringing something into your life:
First: Faith.
Faith that God will bless you with righteous desires.
Faith in yourself and what you’re capable of becoming.
And faith in the law itself—that when you live in obedience to it, what you seek will be drawn to you.
As the scriptures say, “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1).
Even a small particle of faith can open the door. When you begin to believe and hope in the reality of your dream—when you pray, nourish the idea, and let it grow spiritually within you—you’ll begin to feel it taking form. You may even start to taste the thing that’s being created in the spiritual realm. And when it’s fully formed there, it will transmute into something physical. That’s when you get to enjoy the fruits of your faith.
Second: Take action.
Whatever you're hoping for will come more quickly if you’re moving your feet. Be anxiously engaged. Prepare yourself. Create room in your life to receive what you’re asking for.
Third: Show gratitude—now.
Brigham Young said, “I do not know of any, excepting the unpardonable sin, which is greater than the sin of ingratitude” (Discourses of Brigham Young, 1941, p. 228). Genuine gratitude is more than a feel-good habit—it’s the key emotion that tells God and the universe: I’m ready.
A while ago, I got sick. I couldn’t work. The bills kept piling up. On top of that, we had another family living with us—four extra mouths to feed. As the end of the month approached, we didn’t have enough to cover the mortgage.
Thankfully, I’d been through the Mentor Training program and had learned how to live by these laws.
A year earlier, I would have spiraled. But now, instead of panic, I felt calm assurance that God would provide. I knew we’d done our part, and something good was coming. I held to the vision that we would meet our obligations and kept a thankful, faithful attitude—every day.
My health kept declining, but the worse I felt physically, the more I leaned into faith. I could feel something spiritual taking shape. Our needs were being answered, though we couldn’t yet see how.
A week before the mortgage was due, my mother-in-law sent us $100. Then my wife’s sister sent another $100. That money let us buy food and diapers—but we were still short $200. Still, we didn’t worry. We knew more was on its way.
And it was. Two days before our mortgage was due, that same sister sent another $300. She’d come into some extra funds and felt prompted to send it. She had no idea what we were facing—but God did.
Our joy was full. Our gratitude was deep. And our faith—both in God and in this law—grew stronger than ever.
I am truly grateful to know and live this law. It has helped me quiet doubt, conquer fear, and replace both with faith, hope, and gratitude.
