If You Make Room, It Will Come

I used to run a home business I genuinely loved—teaching private voice and guitar lessons. I was good at it, and for a long time, it felt like a dream to "go to work" just down the hall. But after nearly 20 years, something shifted. I began to dread it. I was grumpy, resentful, and eventually had to face the truth: I was done. So I told all my students I was closing the studio.

Not long after, a surprising new path opened up. A series of events led my husband and me to consider breeding Great Danes. Before I knew it, I’d fallen head over heels for the breed and decided to dive in. This would be my next venture—my new at-home job.

HA! Anyone who’s built a business from the ground up knows it’s never that simple. I needed money. I needed space. I needed dogs! So, we turned to a principle I believed in deeply: The Vacuum Law of Prosperity.

If we wanted to attract the right dog, we needed to make room for her—and her puppies. Remember my old music studio? It wasn’t the perfect setup, but it was the only available space. So, with some hesitation but a lot of hope, we began the transformation.

It took days. Shelves, music, CDs, instruments, a piano, computer, furniture, printer—it all had to go. If we couldn’t find space for it in our already small home, it had to be donated, sold, or tossed. Honestly, it was emotional. I was saying goodbye—for now—to over 20 years of my teaching and performing life. And all the memories that came with it. But I reminded myself: If I don’t make room, the perfect dog won’t come. So I pressed forward.

I wrote a clear, detailed statement describing the kind of dog we needed. Every day, I repeated it out loud. I recorded it and listened to it. I thought about it constantly. Some might call it desperation. I called it focus.

The room was finally empty. A blank slate. Slowly, we filled it again—but this time with puppy supplies: waterproof flooring, new furniture, a whelping box, crates, blankets. And still, I spoke my statement. I was grateful. I believed. I waited. I was grateful. I believed. I waited.

And then—it happened.

I saw a photo of a stunning dog that checked every box from my statement. We reached out. Messages and pictures flew back and forth. I knew. This was my dog. I was already in love.

A few days later, I was on the road to meet him. I drove two days straight, met him, and turned around for the two-day drive back. Over 2,500 miles. It felt like twice that—but we made it home.

If you make room, it will come. In your home, in your heart, or wherever you feel the void. Whatever it is you need or want—choose, make room, and believe. The Vacuum Law of Prosperity may not always be easy, but it is simple. And I promise you: it works.
