Life’s Challenges: Friction, or Traction?

leslie householder’s posts overcoming adversity Dec 14, 2016

Every life challenge offers traction for rapid progress toward your goal. Friction is optional.

Imagine life as a vast network of cogs and gears—like the intricate inner workings of an old-fashioned clock. Each person and situation passes into and out of our lives like gears on a track, rotating into contact with our own.

The system is far too complex to map out or predict. We can’t always see which gears are in play or how they’re affecting the connections we experience.

But one thing I know: every time you set an intention to accomplish something, the governing forces go to work. They shift the timing, the sequence, and the pathways of all the gears in motion. Each one can be nudged into or out of alignment to meet your intention.

At the center of your gear is the axis on which you rotate—sometimes smoothly, sometimes not. Things run best when you spin freely, fully engaging with whatever gear comes your way.

But often, after you set a goal, what shows up is a challenge disguised as an inconvenient, even unwanted, gear. You tense up, brace yourself, and resist. You try to avoid going wherever that unexpected gear seems to be taking you.

This is where the friction happens.

Ironically, that friction can be more painful than just allowing the gear to engage and seeing where it leads. Because more often than not, it doesn’t take you off track—it spins you toward the very alignment you need to receive the “goal gear” that was set in motion the moment you made your decision.

You can’t always see it in the moment, but each challenge is part of the mechanism that moves you into place. The goal is on its way. But will you be where you need to be when it arrives?

Those who resist engagement often miss their opportunity entirely—and wonder why their goals never seem to materialize.

If you don’t learn to loosen up in the face of adversity, not only will you feel every bit of the heat and pressure from the friction—you risk grinding down the very “teeth” that help you catch and connect with the next important gear.

Every gear—whether it seems good or bad at the time—has the potential to move you forward. Hold a clear image of where you want to go, and the right gears will come. Stay well-oiled, and the journey becomes not just bearable, but beautiful.

It only feels “hard” when you refuse to spin.

Let me help you stay well-oiled for 12 straight weeks and just see where it takes you. It’s a powerful, life-shifting experience—well worth whatever sacrifice it takes to fully engage. The Mindset Mastery™ course is one of the most impactful gears I can offer.

You can view it as a good gear—because of the insight and growth—or a bad gear—because it costs money. But either way, it’s designed to take you where you want to be.

Even the economy is just another gear. It can create friction, or it can create traction. I’ve seen both sides, and every time, I come to the same conclusion.

It’s your choice. Get started now, and set yourself up for some of the most meaningful resolutions you’ve ever made. Let this next year be your best one yet.
