On Meditation

Interesting story to preface…

I recently received an email from someone who kindly told me that while she thinks I’m a lovely person, she finds my writing a little too religious for her taste. She was respectful and appreciative—but also clearly wished these principles were taught from a more secular angle.

And honestly? I get that.

I respect her perspective, and I never intend to alienate anyone by emphasizing my belief in partnering with God to accomplish goals. After all, one of my foundational beliefs is rooted in Article of Faith #11:

[I] claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of [my] own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

(Or not at all, if that’s their choice.)

The good news? The principles of success and the power of positive thinking are universally applicable—no matter what you believe. You absolutely don’t need to subscribe to any particular faith to benefit from these teachings. Obviously.

So why the religious tone?

Let me explain.

When I first began studying these principles, I was introduced to them through a mostly secular lens. But the more I learned, the more I realized how perfectly they aligned with my personal spiritual beliefs. I felt compelled to share what I was discovering with my “churchy” friends who weren’t sure if it was okay to prosper, or how to go about it in a way that honored their faith.

So my early work—my websites, my seminars—was created as a bridge. A bridge between two worlds that often misunderstand each other. I wanted to show how true principles could beautifully support faith-based living.

To someone firmly rooted in the secular world, that bridge may feel unnecessary or even off-putting. I get that. I’ve never expected my approach to resonate with everyone.

When I launched in 2000, I intentionally focused on an audience that believed in God, who were faithful and committed to their belief system of choice—but weren’t sure it was okay to desire success or abundance. I felt uniquely called to speak to that group.

One of my business mentors questioned that decision. “Why not reach a broader audience?” they asked.

But that was exactly the point.

Nobody else was building this bridge in quite the way I felt called to do. And I realized—this was my unique contribution.

The Spiritual Conflict

I believe there is an adversary to the human soul who wants us to live small—discouraged, in bondage, and stuck in survival. And he’s convinced too many of us that it’s evil to hope for something more.

But I believe God would have us seek out the laws that govern success. Because as we come to understand these truths, we become more free.

One of my mentors, Bob Proctor, often quoted:

"There is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessings are predicated—And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated."
—Doctrine and Covenants 130:20-21

Bob wasn’t a member of the LDS faith, but he deeply appreciated the truth of that scripture. His teachings were mostly secular and science-based, but he was quick to honor truth—wherever he found it.

I believe that passage is true as well. And that belief launched my own quest to discover the laws that govern prosperity.

(More on that story: [Visual Aid That Changed Everything])

Every now and then, you’ll see me share ideas that lean more scientific or secular. That’s intentional. I think it’s healthy and wise to understand these principles from multiple angles. We don’t have to abandon what we know to be true in order to accept more truth.

Because the fact is: truth fits.

If something is true, it will always align with the truth you already have. And if it doesn’t? That’s okay. We can weigh it. Sit with it. Let the Spirit of God illuminate our minds. Often, meditation is what helps me clear the noise so I can hear that divine voice more clearly.

So let’s talk about meditation.

Whether you're religious, spiritual, or not at all, meditation is a practice that’s helped people for millennia. In my view, it doesn’t replace prayer—but it does enhance it. It quiets the mind. It softens the heart. And it opens the space for personal revelation.

Here are a few practical tips from Karl Moore, founder of Inspire3 and the Brain Evolution System:

  • Home is convenient but distracting. Use audio or headphones to help you stay focused.

  • Sleepy? Try meditating after a few hours of rest. Early mornings are ideal—before the day’s stress sets in.

  • Mind wandering? Use guided meditations or brainwave audios to stay on track.

  • Create a sacred space. Choose one consistent place for meditation so your body learns to enter that calm state automatically.

  • Anchor the feeling. When you reach a peaceful state, create an anchor—like touching your thumb to your pinky. That way, you can call it up again in stressful moments and reset quickly.

These tips were shared by Karl’s Brain Evolution System. (Worth checking out if you’re curious.)

Bottom line:
Divine guidance is available to everyone—but you have to make room for it.

And that’s what we help people do in Genius Bootcamp. We help you quiet the noise, tune in, and realize just how accessible personal revelation really is.

Because at the end of the day, the solution to every problem is just one idea away. And in my experience, a genius idea is simply inspiration from God.

Whether you call it God, the Universe, your higher self, or divine intelligence—you’re not alone, and you were meant to receive guidance.

Bootcamp is where you reconnect with the greatest Mentor you’ll ever know.
