Passion and Faith

The Law of Gestation teaches us that every seed has a gestation or incubation period. Ideas are spiritual seeds, and just like physical seeds, they require the right conditions and the right amount of time to move into physical form.
When we want to create a dream, we must allow it the time it needs to mature and develop. A seed that’s never planted can’t grow. And a seed that isn’t nourished will eventually wither and die. Seeds need time underground—out of sight—gathering nutrients to become strong, healthy, fruit-bearing plants.
A seed planted in good ground will grow faster and stronger than one planted in poor soil. And the quality of our “ground” is determined by two things completely within our control:
-
The intensity of our desire – How deeply do we really want it?
-
The strength of our belief – How fully do we trust that it will come?
Once that seed is planted in fertile soil, we must nourish it daily so it can become everything it’s meant to be.
The sunlight is our passion and enthusiasm. The more excited and emotionally invested we are in our dream, the more energy we give it to grow. Passion brings light. It keeps our dreams alive and thriving. But clouds can block that light—clouds like doubt, fear, worry, frustration, stress, and anxiety. If those clouds linger too long, our dream won’t get the light it needs, and it will begin to wither.
Water, on the other hand, is the consistent daily action we take—faith-filled steps that nourish our dream. There’s a beautiful Chinese Proverb that says, “The person who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.” Watering your dream isn’t about grand, sweeping gestures—it’s about the little things done daily with love and belief. It takes faith to keep going when you haven’t seen any growth yet… but faith is exactly what keeps the roots alive.
If we were leaving on vacation, we wouldn’t dump extra water on a plant and expect it to survive for weeks. That would drown it. Dreams work the same way—sporadic bursts of effort won’t sustain them. It’s the steady, nourishing care—the small, faithful steps—that give dreams life.
So when we combine:
-
a worthy dream (planted in rich, believing soil),
-
with passion and enthusiasm (sunlight),
-
and consistent, daily, empowering, faith-fueled action (water),
…we create something powerful. Our dream will begin to grow, expand, and flourish in ways we never could have imagined.
Let me share a personal story.
When our oldest son, Zack, was 4½ years old, we had been trying for several years to have another child—with no success. We opened our home to foster children, but none stayed with us long-term. We prayed and hoped, but slowly, our belief began to fade. All the evidence seemed to say, “It’s not going to happen.”
Zack, however, had other plans.
He kept asking when we were going to have a baby. Eventually, we told him, “You’ll have to ask God. We’ve done all we know to do.” And that’s exactly what he did—with an intensity and unwavering belief that we had long since lost.
He knew God would give him a baby brother. He was so confident, he wouldn’t let us say a prayer over dinner without asking for the baby. If we forgot, he made us start over.
Within two months, we were contacted by a birth mother who had chosen us to raise her baby. The next month, we were holding our sweet boy in our arms.
Zack taught us what it means to ask in faith, believing we would receive.
That’s the Law of Gestation at work. It wasn’t just a matter of time—it was also a matter of belief. A dream planted, nourished with childlike faith, and brought to life right on time.
So if your dream hasn’t come yet—don’t dig up the seed. Keep it planted. Keep nourishing it. Let your passion shine on it. Water it with daily action. And trust that it’s growing, even when you can’t yet see the leaves.
