Small Steps, Big Confidence
Mar 28, 2025
Meet Mallory Campbell, Mindset Mastery Honors Graduate. Mallory’s journey through the Mindset Mastery course is a powerful lesson in facing fears and building confidence. Her story shows how small goals can lead to big personal growth, making her experience a relatable and inspiring example of how challenges can fuel our progress.
The Power of an “Inconsequential Goal”
Mallory began her journey by setting an unusual but meaningful goal—to obtain free meat for her family. She wrote:
“I set a goal to get free meat. It seemed strange, but it was something I truly desired and knew was a worthy goal because it would bless my family.”
A “worthy goal” is one that aligns with your values. When a goal is worthy, it inspires dedication and effort, because achieving it brings a sense of fulfillment or benefit that matters to you personally. Even seemingly minor goals can be stepping stones to greater achievements, helping build confidence and momentum along the way. This is why there is so much focus on the inconsequential goal during Phase 1 of the Mindset Mastery program.
Let’s see what happened for Mallory:
“I went to stay at a friend’s home and they told me not to worry about bringing meat, they had plenty for my whole family. As we prepared to leave their home they brought out a bag with 8 packages of meat! It was incredible!”
Moments like this demonstrate how even small, seemingly “inconsequential” goals can be met in surprising ways, and emphasizes the power of setting intentions, no matter how small they may seem.
Tackling Phase 2: A Bite-Sized, Yet Significant Goal
Building on this success, Mallory set a more challenging goal for Phase 2: writing a business proposal.
Specifically,
“To write a proposal to a local business asking them to consider partnering with me as a massage therapist. Or to employ me for massage therapy services for their employees.”
The task felt daunting to Mallory, but nervously, she pressed on.
She shared,
“I was so nervous, but I wrote a professional proposal and took it to the office. I wasn’t able to speak to the owner, but I left the proposal with the secretary with a confident smile as I asked them to get it to the owner. I haven’t heard back yet, but it’s given me the confidence to write proposals to other businesses.”
Completing a task can often be a crucial step in building confidence for future goals. It’s not always about the immediate outcome, but about gaining the experience and self-assurance needed for more significant challenges. Each successful task helps reinforce your capabilities and prepares you for more complex goals, gradually strengthening your overall confidence and skill set.
In Mallory’s case, whether or not she secured a position wasn’t the ultimate goal, but gaining confidence was.
Mallory shared that it was,
“Believing in myself and trying things that scared me.”
Completing the proposal and facing her fears head-on helped to build her self-assurance, preparing her for future opportunities and challenges.
Confronting Fears and Overcoming The Terror Barrier
Facing her fears head-on, or learning how to think truth in spite of appearances, Mallory focused on understanding the true nature of fear.
In her words,
“I just had to remind myself what fear actually is! When I remembered that what was happening was a battle in my subconscious, I was able to keep going with confidence. I’m still mastering thinking truth in spite of appearances, but the time I spend doubting has decreased significantly.”
