The Space Between Point A and B

Do you have a bucket list? Just a really cool list of things you’d love to do? Or be? Or have? I think a lot of us do. Some of us believe our list is actually attainable, while others carry it more like a wish or a frustration—something they want badly but assume they’ll never get around to.
What I’ve learned is this: if you want to get from Point A to Point B—meaning, if you want to actually reach a goal you’ve set—the most powerful part isn’t found in A or B. It’s in the way you handle the space in between.
Let me explain.
Point A is where you dream the dream. You picture it, write it down, and set an intention. Point B is the fulfillment of that dream. It’s the moment the goal is realized. Both points are important, but here’s my big a-ha: Point A is fixed—you chose it. And Point B can be fixed—if you stay in a place of belief and gratitude during the in-between.
The first time I really got this was when I was testing the principles of prosperity. I was taking the Mindset Mastery course, and my assignment was to set a small goal I could potentially reach within a week—just to see the principles in action.
(Sounds easy enough, right?)
At the time, I had an Amazon rental textbook due the day after I set the goal. The UPS man was already scheduled to deliver something to my house the next day, so I decided to visualize him arriving before noon so I could send the rental back with him. Typically, though, UPS didn’t show up until mid-afternoon. But noon would give me just enough time to still make it to a drop-off location if needed—and avoid a $26 late fee. (Let’s be real—that was the real goal.)
The kids and I watched for him all morning. (I tried to play it cool, of course—didn’t want to blow my “teachable moment” cover. Haha.)
12:15… no UPS man.
12:30 hit, and I had the thought to check the window. There he was! But… he was driving past our house, headed back into town. Ugh.
I paused. “Do I still choose to believe?” I asked myself. Then I had another thought—check Amazon to make sure the delivery was actually scheduled for that day.
Turns out… it wasn’t. I had read it wrong. The package was going to my brother’s house as a Christmas gift. My package wasn’t due until the next day. Oops.
I was still learning, but I remembered to be sincerely grateful I had looked outside. At least I wasn’t waiting all day for a delivery that wasn’t coming. I called the local drop-off and asked what time UPS normally picked up. They said 11 a.m.
Double oops.
But then they added, “He hasn’t come by yet today.”
I jumped in the car, visualizing that I’d make it in time and feeling thankful the whole way.
When I arrived, one of the employees told me he had already come—early that morning.
Well, I had a decision to make. Leave the package there and risk the $26 fee, or drive an hour to another drop-off location and burn nearly that much in gas.
I left it there. And I reminded myself again: at least I saw the driver go by, so I knew for sure he wasn’t coming back.
And then… I wanted a candy bar. Just being honest. ;-)
I headed toward the store, and as I turned the corner—there he was. The UPS man. Parked right between the store and the neighboring business.
I ran up, told him my situation, and he said, “I’ll pick it up!”
Yeehaw!
No late fee!
So what did I learn?
The time between Point A and Point B kept my goal alive because:
-
I chose to believe, even when things didn’t look promising.
-
I stayed grateful—whether things looked like they were working for me or against me.
-
I trusted it would all work out for my best good.
It was such a powerful lesson. And from that experience, I’ve seen the same pattern unfold with other goals—especially when problems showed up along the way.
The truth is, it’s really pretty simple: your destination stays on track as long as you choose belief and gratitude in the in-between.
