What it means to be “Past Feeling”

This question just came in from a Mindset Fundamentals Ecourse participant who was having a hard time answering one of the questions about the Law of Rhythm. It’s a great question, so let’s take a look:

What does it mean to be “past feeling,” and how does it relate to the Law of Rhythm?

To be “past feeling” means to be spiritually numb—often without even realizing it.

It means you’ve lost the ability to feel connected to God, sometimes because that connection has been replaced by louder, more exciting (but temporary) feelings.

In short, to be past feeling is to be disconnected from the quiet divine influence that keeps you moving in the right direction.

So how do you know if you’re already “past feeling” or at risk of becoming that way?

If you're actively pursuing a worthy goal, but you don’t feel a sense of inner peace, that may be a sign. That gentle guidance—the kind that often feels more like a whisper than a shout—only stays present when you’re trying to live in harmony with God’s universal laws, and when you have a purpose worth striving toward.

Joy and progress come through change and movement. So after reaching for a goal, if you notice that the joy from the climb has faded, it may be time to reach a little higher. Stagnation is uncomfortable because it robs us of the progression we were designed for.

We're all searching to feel more alive, more at peace, and more joy.

Sometimes, in that search, people turn to enticing—but ultimately destructive—sources of stimulation. These things often create strong, deceptive feelings. The “high” they offer can feel exciting, but it's counterfeit. And soon, the need for that feeling grows, until a person becomes enslaved to the habit or influence that once seemed harmless.

In that state, it becomes harder and harder to feel the quiet, peaceful influence of God—the one that leads to real happiness.

Even experimenting with seemingly minor distractions can steal away the patience, diligence, and discipline required to uncover the slow-growing, unglamorous (but lasting) path to success and peace.

It’s an act of faith to live by eternal laws when the rewards aren’t immediate or obvious. And the more we drift into a “past feeling” state, the harder it becomes to return to that quiet, dependable guidance that never left—it’s just been drowned out.

But even that difficulty is a gift. It’s a natural consequence designed to show us that the thrill we chased was a counterfeit—a lesser imitation of what God has in store for those who trust His timing and faithfully live by His laws.

So stay aware. Pay attention to the nature of your feelings along the way. Through trial and error, make course corrections when needed. Welcome all of your feelings—even the sad, angry, or disappointed ones. Know that they are temporary. The Law of Rhythm guarantees it.

Feel them fully, and let the discomfort guide you to a better path, a shift in direction, or a new velocity—so you can return to the joyful, victorious feelings we all long to experience.
