Growth Spurts and the Laws

There’s a story Steve Harvey tells that carries a powerful lesson—one that applies to so many areas of life. He talks about having an old car up on blocks sitting in his driveway. He had a great attitude about getting a new one. He worked hard, saved up, and truly believed it would happen. But it wasn’t until he finally got rid of the old car that he was able to get the new one. That story, to me, is a perfect example of the Vacuum Law of Prosperity.
The Vacuum Law of Prosperity says that “nature abhors a vacuum.” In other words, when you make space—physically, emotionally, energetically—you create room for something better to take its place. The key is to let go of what you no longer appreciate or use, and to do it with a generous, open heart. Give it away with love, and trust the Universe to fill the space with something even better.
I recently experienced a beautiful, unexpected chain reaction of this law. I’d gone through a bit of a growth spurt and suddenly found myself with hardly any clothes that fit. So, I went through my closet and boxed up everything that didn’t fit or that I knew I’d never wear again. As I packed, I visualized the clothes I wanted to replace them with and felt truly grateful in advance for the new clothes I knew would come.
The boxes sat in the back of my truck for a few weeks (real life, right?), and then I found out that a friend’s sister had lost everything in a house fire. She was in desperate need of clothes—my exact size. I was able to give her a full wardrobe, from comfy sweats to workwear to weather-appropriate layers. Everything was already boxed up and ready to go, and it felt incredible to be able to show up for her in that moment.
But the story doesn’t end there.
On my way home, my aunt called and asked for help packing—she was moving. As I helped her go through her things, she pointed to a box of clothes she no longer had room for and said, “Do you want these?” And wouldn’t you know it? The clothes in that box were exactly what I had envisioned. The styles, the sizes, the pieces I’d needed—they were all there.
That’s the Vacuum Law of Prosperity in action.
So here’s my challenge to you: What do you really want in your life right now? And what might be taking up space—physically, mentally, or emotionally—that no longer serves you? Sometimes the very act of letting go, especially with a charitable heart, is what opens the door for blessings to flow in.
