My Favorite Rejection Letter
Mar 19, 2017
Life can be challenging. But one principle that always brings me comfort when disappointment strikes is the Law of Polarity, as described in Hidden Treasures: Heaven’s Astonishing Help with Your Money Matters (available as a free download).
Contained in every adversity is the seed of equal or greater benefit. – Napoleon Hill
Even though I understood this principle, I still found it frustrating when I tried to get my book The Jackrabbit Factor published in 2005. Letter after letter from publishers came back with rejections. But there was one letter that stood out from the rest.
I had carefully studied a particular publisher’s criteria and was absolutely convinced that my book was the perfect match for their company. I was 100% confident that what I had written aligned exactly with what they were looking for.
So when I received their rejection, I was stunned. If even they didn’t want my book, what was I supposed to do? Frustrated but determined, I decided to publish it myself.
In hindsight, I’m so grateful I did.
Self-publishing turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made. It’s the only reason I’ve been able to give my books away for free and earn over a million dollars in the process. (More about that...)
Because that rejection ultimately changed my path for the better, it has since become my favorite rejection of all time.
Whenever I share that letter, those who have read The Jackrabbit Factor burst into laughter. (Those who haven’t usually just grin, wondering what’s so funny.) With full respect for the publisher who rejected me (I hold no malice!), I thought sharing this experience might inspire you to see your own rejections in a new light:
Finding the Blessing in Disguise
Take a fresh look at your obstacles and setbacks. If something seems bad now, consider the possibility that it might actually be a blessing in disguise. By law, it must contain the potential for something phenomenal. What could the blessing be?

Looking for the upside in your challenges—and choosing to be grateful for them before you even see the good—positions you to receive incredible blessings. On the other hand, if you focus only on the inconvenience of your obstacles, you risk missing the blessing altogether.
