The Law of Rhythm in Action

guest posts law of attraction law of rhythm overcoming adversity Jul 20, 2008

The Law of Rhythm states:
What goes up, must come down.

We see this law everywhere in nature—in the weather, the ocean’s tides, the seasons, even the cycle of life and death. It’s probably one of the most obvious laws to recognize, but also one we rarely use to its full potential.

Most people view the ups and downs of life as just that—ups and downs, endlessly repeating, going nowhere. But I’m here to tell you that’s not necessarily the case. When paired with the Law of Attraction, this rhythm can actually work for you, not against you. So how do we use it to help us move toward the things we want in life?

Honestly, this is the law I struggle with most. It’s hard to look up when you’re at the bottom. Some lows feel like they last forever, and some are really deep. I’ve found myself afraid of sinking too far into the low, worried I might get stuck there—that the longer it lasts, the worse it might get, and I won’t be able to pull myself out.

But recently, someone reminded me of a moment from the Harry Potter series. Harry, Ron, and Hermione get caught in a tangle of enchanted vines. The more they struggle, the tighter the vines grip them. Then Hermione remembers the trick: relax. As soon as they stop fighting, the vines release.

The same is true for our emotional lows. When we resist them—suppress them, ignore them, beat ourselves up for them—they hold on tighter. But when we stop fighting and instead accept the low for what it is, the grip begins to loosen. And then, we start to rise again.

If I’m in a low, I’ve learned to pause and gently tell myself:
"Today, it’s OK if I don’t feel like smiling. It’s OK if I don’t feel motivated. It’s OK if I just need to cry."
Once I acknowledge those feelings without judgment, something shifts. I feel lighter, more open. And from that space, hope starts to creep back in. Ideas, comfort, even joy begin to reappear. And just like that, I’m already on the upswing.

Try it for yourself. You might be surprised how quickly the turnaround comes.

The Law of Rhythm applies to all of life. It’s often easier to float with the current than to fight against it. That doesn’t mean we give up or stop making intentional choices—it simply means we trust the flow of life and use it to carry us forward.

Because we’re meant to move—not just in circles, but forward. Upward. Always becoming more.

So when you’re down, take heart. That rhythm will carry you up again.
